This new vintage of Maison Cabernet, from the cooler 2009 vintage, has pretty boysenberry and currant aromas, with a slightly herbaceous, earthy undercurrent and sweet vanilla bean nuances. The berry fruit is full on the palate, with creamy caramel notes and ripe tannins, this drinks well now and will continue to over the next four to five years.The Winery farms organically on their estate vineyards, and has received the new "California Sustainable Winegrowing" certification from the Winegrowing Alliance because of their efforts to conserve energy and water, as well as introducing natural predators to control insects and animals.

Hewitt’s 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is a large-scaled, structured effort displaying plenty of dusty, earthy notes intermixed with chocolate, licorice, spice box, black currant, and new oak smells. With an opaque purple color as well as terrific depth and intensity, this seriously-endowed 2006 will require some cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2035.
