aristocratic red was awarded its DOCG classification in 1980. Its vineyards are situated in the Langhe, on the right hand side of the Tanaro River and extending from the area northeast of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Nieve and Treiso, as well as San Rocco Senodelvio, once part of the Barbaresco municipality but now a part of Alba. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play their part. Gaja's vineyards in Serralunga are some of the best-exposed plots in the zone, and that clearly was a help here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.

2007 GUIDALBERTO SUPER TUSCAN BABY SASSICIA SAN GUIDO 94+
This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, two of the world's most widely known and most widely planted grape varieties, is common in Bordeaux and many new world winemaking countries. Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and the United States all generate a substantial quantity of 'Cabernet - Merlot' wines each vintage.
The combination has proved successful due to the structure brought by the smaller-berried Cabernet Sauvignon and the softer, fruiter elements brought by the Merlot.
